Summer Vacation

**Westward Trip Part I** {7.8.2026}

Hey friends!! Happy Wednesday!

Today, I’m officially starting my vacation recaps. We returned on Saturday from a 2-week trip out west, and I’m planning to share all about it here. It may take me a while to get through all of it, but I’ll try to get through them all soon. 🙂

We left out on Sunday, June 21st just after lunch. We headed North west and were planning to drive as far as we could until we got tired.

We crossed through many states…. Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri.

It was just getting dark when we drove by the beautiful Arch in St. Louis, Missouri & Busch Stadium.

We drove until Columbia, Missouri then stopped to get some sleep for the night.

Monday, we had another long day of driving. We drove through Iowa and into South Dakota.

At one point, I took over and this is what happened. Haha!

I had to document this because I was so amazed. One stop in Iowa was at the Apple Barrel. This place was great! Their bathrooms were so nice, and I had to get a pic. Each stall had its own toilet, sink, and bidet. Addison was amazed! lol

We needed a little rest stop, so we stopped by Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The falls there were pretty. Even though the water going down it was kindof yucky.

We kept driving westward, and I documented things along the way.

There was not a lot of restaurants or stores period on the drive out I90. We stopped in Murdo, SD at the Circle E Drive-in. The burgers and fries were delicious!

We stopped for the night in Rapid City, SD. It was nice to get some rest.

The next morning, we were up early and headed out for another full day of sights.

First Official stop was Mount Rushmore!

They are actually not very large.

We were in the area, and we wanted to make sure we stopped and at least said we have seen it. We didn’t stay very long.

It is really neat how someone is able to do something like that.

We took a short 30 minute drive to Crazy Horse.

I didn’t really know a lot of the background, so all the information we learned was very interesting.

It’s still a work in progress, but they have done a lot for how massive the rock mountain is.

We left there and headed on westward. I snapped a picture of Devil’s Tower. It was a little far and out of the way of where we were going, so we didn’t actually stop.

We were headed toward Cody, Wyoming. The drive there was beautiful!

Once we arrived, we stopped by some shops and headed to eat dinner at the famous Irma’s hotel & restaurant. It’s a very old hotel that was open during Buffalo Bill’s days.

The inside was still very original.

Most evenings they have a “gunfight” in the street. It was neat to see but a little corny. We didn’t stay for the entire thing.

We really wanted to head to the World Famous Rodeo that night.

It was a beautiful night! It did get a little windy and chilly once the sun headed down.

We all enjoyed watching all the events. These men & women are so talented!

The animals were beautiful too!

I’ll go ahead and wrap up my first post here.

Look for my next posts to include days at Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons & into Utah and Colorado.

Have a great day!
