**Let’s Look At…… My Biggest Fears (Irrational and Not)** {10.11.2023}
Happy Happy Wednesday!! On the second Wednesday of every month, I link up with Shay from MixandMatchMama and Erika from ALittleBitofEverything. Today we are talking about my Biggest Fears (Irrational and Not).
This topic is fun. I’m sure there are things I’m forgetting, but this is all I can think of right now.
*** Locked in an Elevator***
Every time I step onto an elevator, I close my eyes and say a little prayer. My fear is that the elevator will shut down, and I’ll be stuck in it. Or something will happen, and it will descend into a free fall.
Fun Fact: When I was about 17, on a girl’s trip with my Mom and Aunt Dot to Daytona Beach, Florida, my cell phone fell out of my beach bag into the elevator. And you know, back then cell phones were hard to come by. Once the phone fell out, a random kid kicked it in the crack and down my phone went about 20 stories. I was crushed- just like my phone. Haha!
My Aunt, being who she is, was determined to get it back. She talked to maintenance and convinced them to halt the elevator, crawl down in the shaft and collect my cell phone (which was in about a million pieces). I was thrilled to have the sim card back. I will also add this condo unit was huge, so by stopping the elevator, there were a lot of people waiting.
***Stuck in a Tight Shirt/Tight Space***
This next one goes a little hand in hand with the elevator and not liking confined spaces. If I ever try on a shirt in a dressing room, and it gets stuck trying to get it back off, I have to do some deep breathing exercises to not get claustrophobic and freak myself out. This also happens if I’m in tight spaces with a lot of people The sweat starts popping out on my forehead.
***Any Kind of Bug/Spider/Grasshopper***
Around here, we are having a huge takeover with Joro Spiders. Are you guys where you live? It’s weird, they’re not the typical writing spiders. These are huge, and if one shows up one day, the next day there are 20 more. And, the webs are insane and extremely sticky! Thankfully, the pest man has been helping to eliminate the infestation. It has gone well with the Halloween decorations. Haha!
If any kind of bug, spider, grasshopper is in my vicinity, I’m probably going to freak out- especially grasshoppers. I don’t know when or where they’re going to jump, and the unpredictability really freaks me out
***Heights***
When I was younger, I used to love roller coasters, and any kind of thrill. As I’ve gotten older, I hate heights. Even in a tall building, a hotel room, anything high above the ground, I do not want to get near the edge or windows. I start shaking, I close my eyes, I cannot look out. I feel like it goes back to starting after I had Addison. Thinking to myself something might happen to me, and I wouldn’t be there to take care of her. Anyone else have this fear?
***Public Speaking***
In my current position, you would think I would be comfortable speaking in front of a large group, well I’m not. I’m fine teaching in front of students, but put me in front of a group of adults/teachers- the splotches and hives begin. I try to psych myself up, give lots of positive self-talk, and do breathing exercises. Haha! I’m a mess, I know.
