Summer Vacation

**Westward Trip Part II ~ Glacier NP** {7.15.2026}

Hello Hello! I’m back today sharing another post from our trip out west. If you missed the first recap of our trip where we traveled to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse & Cody, Wyoming, read it all here.

We left Cody early Wednesday morning and headed north. At some parts, we were traveling on the famous Beartooth Highway. We saw beautiful country.

We traveled out of Wyoming and into Montana.

We drove all the way to West Glacier, Montana. We stayed at the KOA there. It had a lot of amenities and activities. It was very nice.

Thursday morning, we were up fairly early. We ate breakfast at the cute, little restaurant in the KOA campground, called Lazy Bear cafe. Had great coffee and huckleberry everything! Yum!

Then, we headed off on our daily journey exploring Glacier National Park.

The weather was a little cool and cloudy, but we didn’t mind.

We did a little bit of hiking. Which you know Joey loved, and I tried to love. Haha!

Eh… it really wasn’t so bad. We did maybe a 4 mile round trip hike along Lake McDonald. It was beautiful! I was just afraid we would encounter a bear or other wild animal. We did have bear spray just in case.

After a bit of hiking, we were ready for some lunch. We drove over to the Lake McDonald lodge to have lunch at Jammer Joe’s. Super cute and had to get some Huckleberry Lemonade, of course.

We explored the Lodge and the grounds a bit. It was beautiful, and the sun was beginning to peek out.

We hung around for our tour reservation on the famous Red Bus. So cool!

It took us up the Going to the Sun Road, and our driver was very knowledgeable and great about pointing things out along the way and stopping for photo opportunities.

It was all so huge and yet so peaceful too. Amazing how all this was formed from glaciers.

There was still a good bit of snow. And a lot of snow melt and run off spots.

Addison enjoyed getting splashed.

This was pretty crazy. As the snow came down, it was so heavy it caved in these restrooms. You can see a little bit of the corner of the roof on the left side of snow.

More beautiful falls from the snow melt.

We saw this mountain goat and a family. Its fur was shedding for the warmer weather.

We headed all the way up to the top at Logan’s Pass. The pictures don’t really show how beautiful the mountains really were.

And Addison was excited to see some and touch some snow.

And then we headed back down the mountain. You can see the road we were traveling on a little bit in the picture.

They called the road ‘The Garden Wall’.

It’s hard to see, but there is a black bear behind those leaves. You can see his nose and a bit of his head. We were driving by.

Our driver kept driving us around showing us things. You can see a bit of a glacier still in the third picture behind the tree leaves.

She drove us out to another area.

We saw a deer out there. He’s hiding a bit behind the tree.

And I snapped a couple more pictures as the bus returned us to the Lodge. A great tour and would definitely recommend.

I would not recommend taking your own vehicle on the Going to the Sun Road. Lots of people were hitting mirrors and hitting the rocks along the moutain. The road through there is very narrow.

We ate an early dinner at the Lodge. There aren’t a lot of dining options in West Glacier, so we decided to go ahead and eat before we left.

We left the Lodge and stopped back by the West Glacier Village for some shops and sovenirs.

Then, we were up Friday morning and leaving to head south toward Yellowstone.

I will share more from our trip soon!

See you guys on Friday!
