June 2019 Book Review
Before I start reviewing, I wanted to let you know about some awesome sales!!!
The LOFT is having 40% off most and 60% off Summer’s Best Styles and FREE SHIPPING, which rarely happens. They’ve got some awesome things that I’ve been eyeing lately. I think this shirt is just darling. I love the color, and the price can’t be beat! This top is adorable! I love the dots and it could easily be dressed up for work or a date night.
My favorite place to get pajamas is Soma Intimates and right now they have a ton of things 50% off. My favorite pajamas are the Cool Nights. They are so soft and actually do keep me nice and cool at night. This is a great thing because I get hot while I’m sleeping. I think it’s all my hair. I can’t say enough about them, they are AMAZING!! They have pretty designs and you can mix and match them. I usually get the tanks and the shorts and pants to match. 🙂
So, let’s get on to the books I read……
I read five books this month. Four of the books I LOVED, and one of the books was just, eh. I even thought to myself, while I was trying to get through the one book, I should stop. However, I am glad I finished it, and was able to check it off. Done.
So, needless to say, this post will have a lot of highs and a little lows.
Let’s go….
I am usually a slow reader compared to others, however, I flew through this book rather quickly. I didn’t want to put it down. I wanted to see how it ended. It definitely was a thriller type book for me. I love Kristin Hannah books! They always tell amazing stories. Most of them are based on actual events and are often linked back to her or her family in some way.
This book takes place in the 1970’s. Initially, I thought that would bother me, BUT it did not disappoint one bit. It’s about a young girl whose family moves to Alaska, for certain family reasons. It revolves around them and the people they meet. I can’t recommend this one enough! Go get it!!
Okay, this is it…. This is my Debbie Downer book….
I read Crazy Rich Asians earlier in the year and thought it was so cute and charming. I watched the movie, and it was pretty good, but of course, not as good as the book. So, I knew, eventually, I wanted to read the others in the series, since it is a trilogy.
Well, this one was very difficult to get through and follow. I kept having to refer back to the family tree in the beginning pages of Crazy Rich Asians to figure out who they were talking about. #annoying #wastingmytime
I finally got to about 50 pages from the end, and it started picking up again. Thank heavens! The end was cute, and now, of course, I want to read the third. I’m not sure I will though. This one was tough for me. Anyone else?
This one, for some reason, reminded me of The Great Alone. I’m not sure why. Maybe because it was also AMAZING!
This one I flew through. I love books that take place in the Southeastern United States or on/near the beach. This one takes place in the 1950’s, in rural North Carolina, so I hoped it would be a good one. It’s about a young woman’s life and how she perseveres through difficult times. It has some mystery and a little romance. The perfect balance. I couldn’t put this one down. The end was SHOCKING!!! I literally gasped out loud! Go get this one!
This one was such a good, quality book. I don’t know if I just wasn’t expecting much or what…but I loved this book! It’s her first novel. I was very impressed! I thought the characters were interesting, the plot was unique, the setting was quaint… the whole book was charming. A young woman has to go take care of some family business in rural north Georgia. Her niece goes along with her. They discover some shocking things about their past. This one was definitely an easy read. If you love some mystery, chic-lit, and a little romance, this one is for you!
I finished off the month with this one. It was a great way to close out the month…. especially being a beach read.
I have read most of Mary Kay Andrews books, and being from Georgia, I typically love them. They are usually funny and witty with some mystery and romance. This one definitely checked those boxes.
The main character gets into some hard luck in the beginning and has to move near her estranged father and begin working at his law firm. She finds out he married one of her school mate enemies. Eek! There are lots of twists and turns in this book. It was easy to follow along and some parts were thrilling in just the right way. I loved this one!
Okay, what did you read this month??? Please comment and share!!! I just started my first book for next month, and unless things spiral completely out of control, it is FANTASTIC! In the meantime, please tell me what to read next!
